Styling for Small Spaces
To the tune of “I’ve Got Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks……Oh….. I’ve got friends in SMALL SPACES!
That’s right. Small spaces. Making the most of your space will continue to be important, but there’s an extra challenge with smaller-scale living. Making the most of it while creating a look that will make it feel open, inviting, and larger is the goal. Here we have a few examples of small scale stages we’ve recently finished.

HILL STREET
Historic Hill Street building is a Stucco Home built-in 1916 by George Davis. This 943 sq ft home has been completely renovated by Adriel Liwag of FLIPSQUAD and we must say, this home is CHARMING! With 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, it certainly does not feel like under 1,000 sq ft. The large windows let in bright natural light to enlarge the space. The skylights in the kitchen paired with the vaulted ceilings draw the eyes up. To style a space like this, you should use furniture that is scaled-down to create the illusion of a larger space. We tend to lean more towards modern and contemporary styles since most of these styles of furniture are manufactured at a lower height. We love the tall barn doors installed as well!

MILLER AVE
Miller Avenue clocking in at 912 sq ft is a cottage/bungalow that has also been updated with new floors, paint, fixtures, appliances, and landscaping does a great job of feeling more spacious. Like Hill Street, we see large windows (and a lot of them) to let the light in. They have also added shiplap wainscoting in the living and bathrooms to extend the look of the space horizontally. Not only is it majorly cute but also trendy. The bathroom tile is another great feature and focal point to the room. If you are unable to renovate (many of us are) or are in a rental, a more affordable option for your small space could be peel and stick wallpaper for an accent wall. Keeping the furniture neutral with pops of an accent color keeps the eye moving through the space. And our personal favorite accessory to add to our staging is plants! In our actual homes, we have living plants. Greenery in your home not only makes the space more inviting, but it boosts your mood, reduces stress and fatigue, and a multitude of other benefits! Check out how adding plants to our home can only help you!

PAHLISCH HOMES- TOWNHOME
For our final small space, we present a townhome built from our friends at Pahlisch Homes. Since we had a little more room (and rooms!) to work with, we used a different style other than modern and contemporary. In these homes, we are trying to appeal to first-time homebuyers. We created more of a transitional look to cater to a variety of tastes of people who would tour this home. Clean lines and contrast are important in a space like this to make it feel larger. The neutral colors paired with contrast from pops of black and certain pops of color. All strategically placed. We also like to incorporate glass pieces (such as coffee tables and consoles) to not close the space off. Fun lighting accents are another great idea to make a ‘pop’ in a smaller space!
Some of our favorite quarantine go-to’s for small home improvements and styling are Wayfair, Overstock, World Market, Pier 1 Imports, and anything on Etsy to support small businesses! Be sure to check the reviews and ratings to make sure your product will fit your expectations. That’s all folks! We hope you are weathering this crazy time with ease and are staying happy and healthy at home! We hope this blog was helpful and gave ya some ideas!
